Message: Here is the first post in the new Polgar's Knights team thread.
We currently have two applications for membership of Polgar's Knights, both from Malaysia -
gameknot.com/stats.pl?mrhazizi
gameknot.com/stats.pl?chesstsar
I'll set up a poll in the Polgar's Knights forum. Please vote and give your comments on whether we should accept these two new members.
Also, feel free to post anything here regarding the team or your games. Hopefully, we can generate some discussion, which has been lacking for the past few weeks.

Chess news:
Barden on chess -- A record 152 chess federation teams have entered next month's Dresden Chess Olympiad, a number probably second in sports competition only to the Olympic Games. Chess has no paralympics but three teams of blind, deaf and physically handicapped chess players are competing on equal terms in the main event. Few countries will be gold medal contenders. The old Soviet Union had a virtual monopoly for 40 years but Russia on its own is less of a sure thing, and after its worst ever placing of sixth at Turin 2006 it has announced a team led by the former world chess champion Vlad Kramnik with an average rating of 2750, the highest in Chess Olympiad history. Armenia and ...
Defensive chess masterclass -- Alexander Morozevich gave a master class in how to play the Gruenfeld Defence as he opened his campaign at the $200,000 Russian Chess Championship Superfinal at Moscow. Morozevich outplayed Konstantin Sakaev, a late substitute for Alexander Grischuk who is unwell. Here are the key points of the chess game. a) 4.cxd5 The Exchange Variation. White creates a strong centre. If this becomes mobile Black will struggle in the centre and on the kingside. b) 7...c5 Black counterattacks the key square d4. 8.d5 allows Bxc3+ c) 10.Rc1 White invites cxd4 cxd4 when he will control the c file in the resulting chess endgame ...
A well-calculated sacrifice -- Peter Svidler leads the Russian Chess Championship Superfinal with a perfect score after three rounds. Svidler defeated the favourite Alexander Morozevich in an 87 move chess game, gradually outplaying the world number two from a position where he held more space. At one stage Svidler was three pawns up but he returned two and reached a technically won rook and pawn endgame. In round three Svidler’s finely calculated queen sacrifice and king march forced a brilliant win. The position with queen against two rooks and knight was complex but once Black’s runs out of checks White’s mate threats decide. ...
